
Live Instructor-Led Introduction to Contract Law
Aims
To provide participants with an overview of the applicable legal system related to commercial, contracting and procurement. To understand the general principles of UK contract law and the formation of legally binding contracts and agreements, it will enable those in commercial, procurement and contracting to understand the basic legalities of contracting and will reduce the pressure upon in-house counsel and therefore prevent delays.
Target Audience
This “Live” instructor-led course is designed for those who have direct or indirect responsibility for the formation of contractual relationships with suppliers and contractors, including those involved in procurement, commercial and contracting activities.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the programme, participants will add value by being able to:
- Understand key sources and principles of the English legal system and how it was developed
- Describe the elements needed for contract formation, written and verbal
- Understand the concepts of offer and acceptance and counteroffer
- Understand the difference between an offer and an invitation to treat
- Consider the issues of legality, capacity and intention to create legal relationships
- Appreciate that the need for consideration needs to be sufficient, but not adequate
- Explain how terms are incorporated in the contract and interpreted by the courts to ensure the organisation’s interests are protected
- Differentiate between express and implied terms and conditions, and warranties
- Illustrate how contracts can be ended
- Outline ways to optimise added value throughout the duration of the contract
- Discuss and evaluate the key contractual terms and conditions

Classroom Delivery
