The UK construction sector continues to face challenges although there are signs of improvement. Notably, suppliers have reported shorter delivery delays and a decrease in input cost inflation from recent peaks, which is crucial for procurement teams. Despite ongoing delays in infrastructure projects and a decline in public-sector tenders, there are indications of improved confidence with some new contract awards. As supplier lead times improve, buyers may find themselves with greater negotiating power. It is advisable for construction organisations to review existing contracts to assess the relevance of force majeure, delay, or price escalation provisions in light of easing supply constraints. Additionally, there is a need to rebalance inventory and reassess sourcing strategies that were adopted during the disruption period. The reduction in inflation pressure presents an opportunity to renegotiate pricing upon contract renewal.
